1. The Importance of Saxophone Maintenance After Playing
The saxophone, as a precision instrument, requires meticulous care. Proper maintenance not only enhances its performance but also extends its lifespan, ensuring optimal sound quality at all times.
For every saxophone enthusiast, whether a professional performer or an amateur player, the saxophone is a treasured possession. A well-maintained saxophone ensures that all components remain responsive, allowing for more accurate execution of musical commands and delivering richer, more nuanced musical expression.
From a longevity perspective, neglecting maintenance can lead to issues like rust in the short term. Over time, wear and tear will also accelerate. However, proper care can significantly slow this deterioration, allowing the saxophone to accompany us for much longer.

(1) Cleaning the Reed and Mouthpiece

Similarly, wash the mouthpiece with water and dry it with a tissue to maintain hygiene.

Next, clean the neck. After loosening the screw, use absorbent paper to dry moisture around the cork and apply cork grease. Avoid rinsing the neck directly with water to prevent cork damage.
(3) Cleaning the Body
Use a cleaning swab to gently pass through the bell and out the neck joint, repeating several times to remove internal moisture. Be gentle to avoid scratching delicate structures like the tone holes.

Leftover moisture on pads can cause aging. Place absorbent paper or a cotton swab between the tone hole and pad, pressing lightly for a few seconds to absorb moisture. Then, gently lift the key and remove the paper, ensuring no residue is left behind to avoid compromising air-tightness.
